Re-Focus and Refresh

Over the past month with my increasing workload for school and the continuing work on Survival Master art assets, I’ve had trouble keeping the blog as up-to-date as I would like. A growing backlog of meeting notes that need to be condensed and strung together in a readable fashion makes me realize that perhaps I need to take another look at how I could more efficiently communicate with my readers about the development process, and keep up with it even in the busiest of times.

After some thought, I came to the conclusion that most of the social networking I was doing was fairly redundant. The Facebook and Twitter had minimal updates, which mostly just linked back to the blog. The blog was my meat and potatoes, and if it did not get updated then neither would the Twitter and Facebook. When I realized this, I decided that I needed to re-focus and find a unique voice for each one.

With the Twitter in particular, I felt that I could do so much more with it. Since I was having the most issues with the meeting notes, I decided to try out live-Tweeting instead. It would save me some time post-meeting since there would be no need to edit or concern myself with stringing together what can occasionally be a rather jumbled collection of ideas. I did a quiet test last Thursday, and it seems to be a good fit. Our next meeting will be tomorrow (Thursday, May 27th) at 2pm EST. Please join us on Twitter at that time if you would like to follow along or ask any questions.

From now on, Facebook will be where I focus on the educational side of Survival Master. I will be posting links to relevant articles, tidbits about our game design, and multimedia to illustrate the implementation of these ideas.

And that leaves the blog for focused articles on the development side of things. I’ll be doing interviews with team members, sharing my workflow and thought processes, features on each KSB as it nears completion, and backstory excerpts to shed light on the game world that we have created to support the learning taking place.

As these updates roll out, I would definitely love to hear your thoughts. I’m always looking for the most fun and effective ways to share the progress of Survival Master, and if something is working (or not working) it would be great to know. Also, if you have suggestions on things you would like to see, please drop me an email or comment. I’ll do my best to make it happen.

Thanks for sticking with me, and hopefully I will see some of you via Twitter during our meetings!
